Is ConsulBooks a medical billing or EHR system?
No. ConsulBooks does business bookkeeping only. It does not handle patient records, claims, insurance billing, coding, or any clinical workflow, and it is not an EHR or practice-management system. Keep those in your existing clinical software.
Does ConsulBooks handle patient health information?
It is not designed for it. ConsulBooks works from business bank and credit-card activity, and you must not upload patient records or protected health information. Because transaction descriptions come from banks and merchants, imported text cannot be guaranteed free of sensitive details, so review it before sharing. ConsulBooks makes no HIPAA certification claim.
Can it separate practice spending from personal spending?
Yes. You choose which accounts to connect, and each transaction is categorized and reviewable, so personal items that land on a business card can be marked and kept out of the business records.
What can I give my accountant at year end?
You can download an accountant package containing posted-ledger reports, transactions, exceptions, audit history, and integrity checks. Read-only accountant invitations are also available and can be revoked at any time; accountant editing inside the workspace is not available yet.
Does it run payroll for clinical staff?
No. Payroll, contractor payments, invoicing, and bill pay are not included. Payroll activity that clears your business bank account is imported and categorized like any other transaction.
How is our financial data protected?
An authenticator code is required before a financial workspace opens, bank sign-in is handled by Plaid rather than ConsulBooks, connection tokens are stored encrypted, records are isolated per workspace, and important changes are recorded in audit history.
